Human Interface Guidelines

Artwork, Showings / Friday, June 13th, 2014

Human Interface Guidelines is a quick project, made with traditional materials hooked up with Arduino-based hardware. It was made in response to the institutional reverence of art objects placed in conjunction with the cultural reverence of technology objects.

Human Interface GuidelinesIt’s ostensibly a rather trite minimalist painting. But when the black paint is touched, the painting produced a quiet tone, possibly of pleasure, possibly of warning.

It was designed using the Apple Human Interface Guidelines, a set of aesthetic rules used to produce their applications. The black mark also references both the painterly gesture and the “swipe” of portable devices.
